Chris Butlin is a retired physicist and science educator. He has degrees in Physics, Education and Science Education. He has worked in schools and universities, with publishers, the media and examination boards.
With his wife Andrea, he has provided hands-on workshops for teachers and technicians involving a wide range of practical activities developed with industry and research. He has given many presentations in England and Wales on the lives and work of the Honourable Henry Cavendis FRS and the Revd John Michell FRS.
Chris is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (FInstP). In 1987 he was awarded the Physics Teacher of the Year. Later, in 1993 Chris was also awarded the Bragg Medal and Prize by the Institute of Physics. It is named after the father and son Nobel Prize winners of 1915 – Sir William Henry Bragg and Sir William Lawrence Bragg – for their studies of crystal structure by means of X-rays. At that date, 1993, Chris was its youngest recipient.
